Namaskar:
There are 2 candidates for this year's KOA
election: Sunil Fotedar and Deepak Ganju. I have known
both individuals personally. Both of them are
basically decent family-oriented Kashmiri Pandits.
At a time when KOA has been fraught with
divisiveness and a feeling of eroding unity we need to
keep our eyes on the most basic goal of this
organization, which is doing good for our community in
the present and for the future.
Over the years I have seen Sunil Fotedar develop
into a person who can fill the shoes of KOA President.
I have seen him build the REC Srinagar alumni
association back in 1990, develop and lead the
creation of websites and discussion forums for the
Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, besides his activities with
organizations in India. I am impressed with his zeal
and determination for anything and everything that is
beneficial to the international Kashmiri Pandit
community.
The KOA Presidency deserves a person of his
passion, zeal and vision to make it more vibrant and
community focused as it was a decade back. At present
the way KOA has been run leaves us with more questions
than answers. Among the many questions, the most
striking ones are:
1. What were the expenses incurred in legal fees
for defending KOA against last year’s lawsuit?
2. How informed have the board members, zonal
directors and membership been kept about decisions
taken by the leadership?
3. What about the disturbing piece of news about a
Kashmiri Muslim being honored in Jammu and the KOA
membership not being told about it ?
These questions have been asked a number of times
but still remain unanswered.
It is time for us to vote for someone who not just
promises to improve the state of the organization but
has a track record of delivering for the community and
doing it with a lot of humility. Let us make an
example of rewarding and acknowledging the work of
Sunil Fotedar by voting for him this election
year.
