KOA Communiqué # 9

Objective 2: Our Youth - Our Identity - Our Future

Namaskaar!!

Couple of days back, I shared with you our plan to achieve one of our key priorities, creating an inclusive KOA and an involved Kashmiri Pandit community. Today I would like to share with you our plan to achieve another key objective.

Our other key objective is to ensure that our youth are connected to our culture and heritage and are well prepared to carry our culture into future generations.

In order to achieve this objective, we will do the following:

  • Enable regular interactions between our youth and seniors to discuss the needs of our youth and how those can be fulfilled.
  • Encourage and empower youth to take leadership roles in national and regional events (e.g., annual camp, convention, etc).
  • Create Youth Corners for the younger generation to get involved in planning and execution of events and whatever reasonable priorities the group can set.
  • Conduct seminars and workshops for youth on the topics related to our culture and heritage.
  • Create Kids Corner for the children that are truly in their formative years to be able to absorb and retain Kashmiri Pandit values including the areas of language and our regular rituals.
  • Use enabling technologies to disseminate knowledge about our culture and heritage to our children and youth.

“Sunil Ji is a model of integrity and openness, and combines these traits with a creative mind, modesty, fine technical skills, and a deep desire to learn from others. This is an outstanding blend of characteristics for a KOA President. His ability to motivate a group of people toward a common goal sets him apart in the race. By nature, he is neither a career politician nor is he manipulative. His work ethics and values reflect his commitment and dedication ---- a basic requirement for a community leader.” – Seema Kachru, Foreign Correspondent, Press Trust of India, Texas.

I would also like to reiterate that once elected; we will deliver the following to our community, in first few months of our tenure:

  • United KOA organization
  • Spirited membership outreach program.
  • Empowered zonal directors and decentralized organization.
  • Community-oriented Kashmiri Pandit International (KPI) newsletter.
  • Updated KOA bylaws after a thorough review and revision process.
  • “Immigration Made Easy” Kit for community members migrating to USA

I am very happy to see Sunil's candidacy for this election. I trust his personal judgment and I believe he is one of those who fully gets what KOA is all about. He has perhaps the most comprehensive understanding of the so called KOA universe -- from its philosophy, to its projects, to its technical and organizational infrastructure -- of anyone involved with the organization. I have not always agreed with Sunil, but he disagreed with me respectfully, intelligently, and with conviction. I've always found him reasonable, thoughtful and willing to converse amicably even when there is disagreement. – Anil Kachru, Houston, Texas
